Most Common Types of telecommunications fraud
Number Spoofing
Falsifying the caller ID to appear as another phone number. Used to deceive the recipient into believing they are communicating with a reputable business, or a government institution.
Neighbor Spoofing
Scammers mimic local numbers, often duplicating the first six digits of your own number to increase the likelihood that you answer the call.
Robocall Spoofing
Automated calls programmed to deliver pre-recorded messages with the caller ID disguised as local businesses or trusted organizations.
Text Message Spoofing
Text messages are sent from a number that appears to belong to a legitimate source, often prompting urgent action from the unsuspecting recipient.
PBX Hacking
PBX hacking allows fraudsters to take control of phone lines by exploiting unsecured phone systems.
SMS Phishing
SMS phishing is the practice of sending mass SMS in order to obtain personal information from the person who receives the messages.
